Special Information from Claire Diamond

Dear All,

Some of you may or may not be aware of Britain in Bloom and Wolverhampton’s achievement of a Silver Guilt as Floral City for its entry in 2009 in the large city category.  This was also the first time the route included a visit to Bilston.

Following visits to numerous places including West Park, the newly refurbished Wolverhampton Archives and Phoenix Park the judges visited Bilston Craft Gallery’s Garden before finishing their day at Bilston Town Hall.  One mention in the Areas of achievement in the marking of the Wolverhampton entry was the Garden at Bilston Craft Gallery Garden.  Garden Club happens fortnightly at Bilston Craft Gallery and is made up of a variety of participants both from Bilston and further afield who contribute to the gardening at Bilston Craft Gallery.  Wolverhampton has indicated that they will be entering as a city on its own, hence giving Bilston the opportunity to enter as an Urban Environment.

Bilston Craft Gallery will be entering as Neighbourhood entry.  However, if there is interest from other groups within the town, there would be great scope to take advantage and enter as an Urban Environment, helping to raise the profile of Bilston as a town.

There were 7 entries in the neighbourhood category in 2009 including Blakenhall LNP, all 7 are listed in the attachment.   Attachments

Given the scope Bilston has from the likes of Peascroft wood, the newly renovated Town Hall and the beginnings of the green space development on Bow street, Bilston is a prime location for entry into a national community gardening campaign.

The first of the neighbourhood meetings was held today and I’ve attached a few key pieces of information that arose from that alongside other thoughts and a brief background to Britain in Bloom.  If you are interested or know of any groups who would be interested, please feel free to pass on this information or to contact Emma Cleary, Floral city coordinator for 2010.

All the best,

Claire
